Your vision plan should cover an annual comprehensive eye exam, frames or contacts, and lens enhancements. Other things to consider are how often you want new glasses and your overall frame allowance. Some plans may highlight low rates, but provide an overall low frame allowance, or don’t provide a lot of savings on lens enhancements (where costs can really add up). Plus, you’ll want to make sure the doctor network includes convenient locations. Read the plan details to ensure you’re getting the right plan for your needs.
Using an Individual Vision Plan is easy. First, pick the plan that’s right for you and the payment option that best fits your needs. Then, visit an eye doctor, (going in-network will help you get the most from your benefits) to receive a comprehensive eye exam. If corrective vision is needed, your eye doctor can help pick glasses or contacts to best fit your style. You pay your copay at the doctor’s office along with any options outside of your plan coverage, and the doctor will take care of processing your benefit claims.
Our vision plans provide savings on many lens enhancements:
No, but you’ll get the most from your benefits when you stay in-network. VSP has the largest independent doctor network in the country so you’re sure to find a practice close by.
A VSP Individual Vision Plan is similar to employer-based plans, especially those provided by VSP. Your individual plan will give you access to quality care and will cover an eye exam and glasses or contact, for a small copay, and will provide savings on lens enhancements.
The money you save depends on the plan you choose and the selections you make at the doctor's office. The following chart shows a typical example of the savings you could enjoy. The more lens enhancements you opt for, the more you'll save. Plus, you can add to your savings by using your Health Savings Account (HSA) for your copays and out-of-pocket costs.
|SAVINGS EXAMPLE*||WITHOUT INSURANCE||WITH VSP||YOU SAVE|
|Comprehensive Exam||$181||$15 copay||$166|
(frames, lenses & lens enhancements)
|VSP Plan Cost||$210||-$210|
I love VSP. It's not only affordable, but it's always been pleasant dealing with their customer service. It's always easy using my insurance to get new glasses and/or contacts.
It's been very helpful in keeping down the cost of my vision exam and my expensive lenses.
It paid for the exam for glasses plus a huge discount on the frames and lenses.
VSP was my insurance when I was fully employed with one employer for 25 years and I was always pleased with the coverage. Upon retirement when former employer no longer covered vision, I was delighted to continue coverage with VSP for my family under an individual plan.
VSP has been a great savings and encouragement to get my annual check-up and stay current on my glasses. For a short time before I retired my employer switched to a different plan that required I visit a different provider where I felt like just a number - one of very many...
My first experience with VSP was through a past employer, I enjoyed the benefits, but knew they'd end when I quit my job. I was SO excited to see that they were offering individual plans, but was initially a little concerned the cost might be too much....
It is so easy to use this plan. My eye doctors office takes care of everything. The savings is fantastic! I was actually very surprised at the amount I saved.
Eye appointments, glasses, and contacts are hugely expensive. VSP helps.
I love it as it gives me discounts and usually covers my contacts for a year!
It has been great to be able to replace my glasses every few years rather than waiting 10+ years when I had no insurance.
When I had to switch coverage after my retirement I came across VSP. When I told my eye doctor about what I was doing they were very pleased and assured me that I would also be happy with VSP. I have now been with VSP for several years and have found it very easy to use and the benefits are much better than what I had before.
Having VSP means that I will get an eye exam annually. Without VSP I would not get the exam. Though glasses frames are all made in China they cost a lot and VSP helps offset some of that ridiculous cost. When I need new glasses I'm glad to have VSP.
My new glasses have improved my life and I can see a lot better. VSP took care of most of the expenses so it made everything affordable.
When I enrolled I was skeptical about the amount of money I would or wouldn't save. I recently had to purchase new glasses and I had a great savings on my designer glasses.
Love VSP. Great discounts and great service No insurance forms. My eye doctors take care of all.
I had a great experience, from the ease of finding an eye doctor, to the copayment for my exam and frames. I'd recommend VSP to anyone.
The plan was very easy to understand and the doctor's staff was very knowledgeable of the plan benefits. Since glasses are so expensive, the plan certainly helps me stay within my budget. The plan certainly does help people on a fixed income.
I was not too sure about this plan, but after having it for a year, what a great plan to have.
When I retired, I lost my employer-sponsored vision insurance. I researched private insurance and discovered VSP. It has been great, a real bargain when compared to other carriers. My optometrist said this was the best plan of the ones they honor. I have been on this plan for four years and have been extremely pleased with the service. the value, and the choices.
VSP is great ! Great discounts on frames, exams and glasses. VSP is easy to use. I am able to afford the Optometrist I want to see and the frames I like. I highly recommend VSP !
I have used this plan for several years, its the best, Thank You VSP
It was easy and I saved hundreds.
I was pleased with how smooth my visit to the Doctor was. I had an issue with my insurance when I checked in. The Receptionist called VSP and the problem was solved in minutes.
I really like it and am glad that I got it. It was easy to use and my eye doctor was in network so I could go back to someone I knew. Thanks.
VSP is a great plan. I'll never change.
I have been a member of VSP for 4 years or longer and have had no problems with the company. Eye doctor's office never has to jump through hoops to file our claims.
